I figured out the language on my Internet. Great News.

And by the way I woke up early today and went into Hong Kong. One of the girls here from BC with me actually lives down the hall from me and she came by last night with a girl she met. Our other friend came as well. They knocked on my door shortly after I had taken an Ambien and had gone to sleep. I was able to stay awake for a little while, however, and talk. We decided to wake up early today (Sunday) and go into Hong Kong island and just walk around. While we were sitting at breakfast, we actually met some other international students who came with us into the city. We walked around for quite some time. The humidity here is really oppressive. It never breaks, and it is omnipresent.
I was able to get some sheets, a pillow, and a phone today. My bed, however, remains the same size. When I woke up this morning and turned over I realized just how small a bed it is. I measured, and it is less than three feet wide. I promise I will put pictures up of my room, as well as my other travels, but I do not want to do so yet. I have not been able to find an converter/adapter, so my computer battery is running on fumes. That's all for now. Hope all is well.

  1. Hey MJ- (aka big man in Hong Kong)

Glad to made it safely to HK. It sounds as if you are already surrounded by friends which is wonderful. It's a trip of a lifetime. So settle in, relax and enjoy the experience. Send pics when you can. Let me know if you get a bigger bed.

  2. Hi Michael,
Glad to know you are okay. Delighted to hear from you of course! Sounds like you had a good first day. Good that you met up with your friend from BC. Where are the other "international", (that sounds so cool doesn't it?)students from? I hope you are going to be able to sleep okay in that little bitty bed of yours! Orientation tomorrow, right? Hopefully you will get the convertor soon so we can skype:) Love you lots. Mom

  3. Hey MJ
mom and i thought of you yesterday as we wandered around the asian grocery store and realized that you are now basically living in one giant Super H Mart. As far as the converter goes, I didn't use one in the Jing - I just pulled out that third prong (i think its called something about a grounder?) from my computer plug and then it worked fine. Maybe not the best idea, but thats what I did. Sounds like you're doing well so far, despite that whole sleeping on a wood plank thing. I remain very jealous of you frolicking around asia. Keep the updates coming..breaks up the law reading! Also, i'm just going to leave skype on at all times now, so hopefully we'll get to have a chat soon! Have fun at orientation!!

  4. Michael, Dad says it is a bad idea to do what Caitlyn did when she was in Beijing. But then, you probably already knew that. Love, Mom

  5. Mike!

(Don't judge me; I had to write a blog for my media writing class last semester.) Anyway, I felt like seeing how you were doing in the land of a million Asians.

Make sure to introduce everyone there to JCM...if that even exists there, who knows.

Katie says hi too. She's wearing her sling with pride and apparently after 8 weeks her clavicle should be healed.

Milwaukee is ghetto as ever. In fact, Kris got mugged in front of a gas station on Friday. Obviously, that was a great welcome back.

Katie and I are sorry we couldn't see you before you left and we have to skype soon!
